Surprisingly delicious:
I bought a bar of dark chocolate with toasted sesame seeds a couple of days ago. I think of myself as having tried most types of chocolate (I am, after all, nominally Swiss) and I always assumed I’d fantasized about all the different possible chocolate concoctions at some point in my life. Violets? Check. Salt? Done. Walnuts, bacon, tea, coffee? I’ve tried it all. But sesame seeds? In chocolate? It was on the shelf of a normal grocery shop, not a fancy boutique, and this made it all the more intriguing. I felt like I’d just found a rare Nirvana bootleg in a Top 40 bargain bin… in Switzerland.
I don’t know how to describe the chocolate - it tastes almost Middle Eastern (I was born with Orientalist taste buds, apparently.) The seeds cut the bitterness without making it overly sweet, and add a tiny crunch that masks the fact that the chocolate itself was not the best (making second-rate dark chocolate crunchy is like serving cheap white wine really, really cold.) In any case, I highly recommend adding sesame seeds to chocolate. That is all.
