Some thoughts while packing up an apartment
- Fitting books into a suitcase is a lot like Tetris.
- I have accumulated five almost-full boxes of band-aids in ten months, but I still have blisters on my toes.
- Using bubble wrap makes me feel very grown-up. I’d feel even more grown-up if I’d actually bought the bubble wrap, rather than receiving it in a package three months ago, getting flustered about how to recycle it, and stuffing it in a cabinet.
- I am the opposite of a hoarder. Is there a name for that?
- I wish my boyfriend was here: he is the most talented bag-packer and clothes-folder I’ve ever met.
- Packing up your belongings in a furnished rental apartment isn’t very rewarding. After all your things are stuffed into three suitcases, the paint on the walls is still peeling, the carpet’s still dirty and ugly, the curtains still hang in an awkward way, and there’s no empty space to remind you of your efforts.
